Bournemouth Air Festival - Thursday

Post by Tonka 617 » Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:12 pm

The temptation of the Draken and Viggen pushed me in to taking the 7hour round trip to Bournemouth and back on Thursday, the drive home was a slightly deflated one after a rather poor day flying wise. Awkward light all day (as to be expected on the south coast) and distant display, however pretty cool to see the Swedes flying together

A few efforts from the day, far from my best work, but you can't win them all. Next year I think a trip out on the Steam boat will be on the cards, if anything is confirmed to entice me back

Good photos from the South coast.

I went yesterday, and the combination of sea haze and the aircraft being strongly back-lit made for difficult conditions with regards to photography. Came home with silhouettes of the displays, but might be able to rescue some of my efforts .

Thanks for posting.

Personally, Michael, I think you are to be applauded for wresting those shots from the prevailing conditions

Well done and thanks for posting :thumb:

Well I see nothing wrong with those, I really like the Typhoon shot

As for those splinter cam: - Viggen's, remind's me of when they did a "Goodwill Visit" to RAF COLTISHALL - 09.1983 & it was slide's in those day's, and they seemed to only fly in the Afternoon
when the Sun was not in your favour, in fact if my memory is correct, they only flew in on Arrival - once whilst there - and on Departure
forewarned is forearmed

Well, you say far from your best work but I say they are truly fabulous!
I especially enjoyed viewing the Swedish duo so thanks very much for sharing them

I was there on Thursday, can't help but feel that the display line certainly seemed further out this year.

we were on the East Cliff and i've always got fairly decent photos (obviously with all the problems shooting in to the sun brings) with my old 400mm, but i was struggling with my 150-600mm

Think you've done darn well to be honest.
