Farnborough International Airshow 2024

Post by lynothehammer » Tue Aug 06, 2024 12:12 pm

Whilst a lot of people have a dislike for Farnborough, for me it's local and still has a few bits that's always worth seeing and the best part is it's only a 10 minute journey home.

Whilst i only had one day in this year i still managed to get out to get a few shots albeit it from the Aviator as pretty much the whole area around the airfield was on lockdown.

Great shots.
Always had a hankering to go onto Laffans plain to get shots down the runway with a long lens - was this out of bounds too?

After the photographic opportunities at RIAT for 6 Days previously I found it extremely difficult to motivate myself to visit Farnborough at all!
Best content already see! Best weather already had the week before. Location & height of the 'displays' too far from any freely accessible location>
I gave-in & went on the Wednesday afternoon as the weather was forecast bright & fair. Turned-out hazy, overcast & studly distant! Waste of time!
'Lyno' has acquired some decent images from a daily visit to augment a few shots from outside, I think?
Your Dream is Toast MADWOP....No access to the Basingstoke Canal, Bailey Bridge, Fleet Road or MOD land to the south of the Airfield for elevated shots. Even with access there, pretty much only 2200ft flypasts by the P-8 & B-52 came remotely close !

I agree with you Supra. I've been going to Farnborough since 1968, and the content quantity and, to a lesser degree, quality has been on the decline, especially over the last 10 years or so. For me it has become over expensive at £60+ per ticket, plus a fair degree of aggravation getting there, then home to East Anglia afterwards. Miles and miles of cones and queues on the motorways. RIAT, by comparison seems to be holding it's own against FB: the editorial in Air Forces Monthly this month is quite telling. So, sadly, that's it for FB for this tired old spotter. I'll save my time, effort and money for RIAT - and you get one every year!
