Travis Air Force Base 3/23/16

Post by JAWS » Thu Mar 24, 2016 1:16 am

Not sure if of any interest to anyone but the following movements were noted on ADS-B Exchange today . I also saw 1709 C-130 USCG and a C-27 USCG ( forgot to copy serial ) which departed Sacramento and both passed close to Travis heading out towards SF and out to sea . All movements also seen in distance from office . May have missed some movements due to work

Thanks for the log, Steve. I found it interesting. I, too, saw the CG C-27J on ADSBexchange but, like you, didn't note the serial (it might have been 2709, but wouldn't swear to it).

69-0024 is a C-5M (was the 3rd conversion) and is supposedly with 436AW at Dover.

However, the "CHILIxx" callsign suggests that it has been re-allocated to 68AS/433AW at Kelly Field. 85-0007 has also been noted as having transferred.

Is Travis okay for spotting,is there any decent spots to watch from while keeping out of the way,if you know what I mean.

Thanks

Today we have 87-0034 C-5M doing circuits as CHILI99 and is the 3rd Travis machine I have seen use it , so may be the callsign has been re-allocated to a Travis Squadron ?

From my understanding there are not any good vantage points to see anything going on at Travis and I know the Security are pretty hot . They made me delete any photo's I took of the Aircraft on the ramp at the Air Show that were not in Static or Flying last time I went . Maybe someone else knows better than me though . Anyone ??

There is, of course, another explanation that I have just thought of. 68AS is known to be getting C-5Ms, so could it be that their crews are undertaking Super Gally training with the two main AMC wings - hence the usage of the "CHILI" callsign??

Hi,

In spring 2007 (!) I sat on that road for a whole day, no problem. A week later I was there again, and was sent away within an hour. I stayed further away and listened to scanner, and when something came in, I drove to that road. Further away as in on the other side of the main road there.
Hope that helps.
