Hi all,

In August I went on a family holiday to Burgas, Bulgaria.

Before I left for the holiday the usual research suggested the airport was a little quiet for me and dot spotting was ok.
Not to waste a holiday with not many aircraft I elected to do a bit of wrecks and relic hunting to break up the days next to the pool as Its not my thing.

Creating a hitlist map, I soon discovered that the country is a mass of wrecks and relics.
Planning to see a few W&R rapidly expanded into gaining permission from the wife and kids to go on two 3 days road trips around Bulgaria.

I covered the country, doing about 2200 miles in those 6 days. I doubt the car rental company was best pleased but Unlimited miles is unlimited miles.

Museums visited were:-
Burgas Airport (Burgas Air Museum)
Yambol (Museum of combat glory)
Krumovo / Plovdiv (Musuem of Aviation)
Sofia (National Museum of Military History) - Closed during August for refurbishment, Manged to get 6 bits outside but 12 went begging, Not impressed couldn't even talk myself in for 15 minutes. (Future trip)
Along with Sofia Airport
And over 100 quick 3-5 minute stops in various towns and villages.

Here is the tally of the main bits. All are included for the sake of completeness. Not all Military.

An2 = 54 (2x Mil)
An12 = 2
An14 = 2
An24 = 3
An26 = 3

Il2 =1
Il14 = 2
Il28 = 1

Let 29 = 14
Let410 = 10

Mig 15 = 13
Mig 17 = 33
Mig 19 = 12
Mig 21 = 38
Mig 23 = 9

Mil 1 = 2
Mil 2 = 7
Mil 4 = 6
Mil 8 = 6
Mil 14 = 4
Mil 17 = 3
Mil 24 = 9

Su 22 = 7

Instead of a long list of aircraft logged please visit my Flickr where about 95% of the wrecks and relics are found.

Wow! You certainly did the rounds. I too had the good fortune to spend 5 months in Bulgaria some years ago, thoroughly enjoyed the place I have to say. Thank you for the link to these pictures. :thumb:
