Praha Kbely information
Praha Kbely information
I’ve got two days in Prague next month and a quick search shows Praha Kbely nearby, looks fairly interesting but there’s little information about the base and spotting online. I can see they have a museum that will be closed when I’m there but is there anywhere I could spot for an hour or so? Can’t see it on Scramble (in fact nothing about the Czech Republic!)

Re: Praha Kbely information
I was there last year
Got a train/bus from the city
It's shame the museum is closed as it is good - it should be open for the spring summer. From inside the museum you can see the active ramp not much active just some Mil-8 and a A319
Don't forget to walk across the road to the other small museum - there are some stored MiGs outside behind the big hangars which you can walk up to - see Google maps satellite view

Thank you Slogan! Do suppose you know of anywhere nearby you would be able to see the active stuff?

Re: Praha Kbely information
I don't sorry
If they happen to fly then you should be OK
From memory when I was on the bus the end near the main road junction not far from the bus/train station looked quite open
When i was in the museum for two+ hours only two choppers flew - departed toward the main road at the end of the runway
The bus stops right outside the museum and might be high enough to see over the fence?
Out of interest are you sure the museum will be closed?

Re: Praha Kbely information
If you go around the back of the airfield to a village called Satalice, There is a bus stop (Sportareal Satalice) and a railway station, you could walk about 20 mins to a point opposite the Robin oil service station on the motorway. If you look on Google maps and activate street view you can see the accessible paths that lead up to the fence. Advice do not get to close to the fence, Locals walk there dogs, cycle past etc through that area so you do not get bothered.
Have been there 3-4 times in the past and you can see and read most stuff on the field have even poled the odd aircraft in the hangars with patience.

Great shame Kbely Museum is closed, only open May to October, it is very good. If you have a few hours spare in Prague try visiting the Technical Museum , open each day except Monday
