It would have been my Dad’s 71st birthday tomorrow, so it seems appropriate to show you some of his vast slide collection. He started taking his first slides in the summer of 1971. He also attended every single IAT/RIAT apart from last year when he was too ill to attend. Here is a selection of shots showing the large variety of types & Air Forces which could be seen in the U.K in the seventies… I will be regularly updating this post when I get the chance to fire up the scanner.
First up a shot of a very youthful looking Mr Freer Snr at Portland, prior to an air to air with 829 Sqdn Wasps
One of the most wonderful posts for a long time, stunning collection, agree with Paddy, the Hastings is a beauty as are the colourful USN birds, Ciaran
Superb Stuart.
Some fantastic scans of Mick's wonderful photographs. Can't pick a favourite , love them all. Only ever saw one roman nose C-130 -Greenham '83.
Nice to see a pic of XT423 . That wasp was ships flight on HMS Hecla when my dad was assigned to it.
Cheers,
Mark
Quite stunning, a marvelous selection and variety. The images I've posted on this forum in the last 6 months or so are just photos taken at airshows/airfields in the 80s and 90s. Your fathers images are in a different league. Bearing in mind these are pre digital, the quality, composition and lighting are fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing
Excellent memories Stuart. I had the pleasure on many of the Greenham & FFD events of finding myself in the vicinity of your Dad on the approach and enjoying some cracking banter .. as well as similar views. Thanks very much for posting. MF lives on
