Perhaps they should be renamed "No"donia Society.

Interesting photos though.

I have a broken Hi 8 tape that I hope has video of the Llanbedr Sea Vixen arriving at Swansea. It's going away for repair and transfer to DVD.If it is the video I'm hoping it is, then I'll do my best to get it posted for viewing.

What a great set of pictures!.... thanks very much for sharing them with us.

I used to go camping as a kid at Shell Island next door and spent many a happy hour or two watching the goings on from the sand dunes. I even got to shoot an approach there on my one trip that way in a Jet Provost on flying training. There were still a few bits and bobs sat rotting on the site 2 or 3 years ago when I took my own kids camping there... such a shame it is no longer in use!

All really nice stuff! Any more pictures? More of the Canberras maybe or the Vixens? Or anything else in fact, MoD(PE) stuff is always fascinating!

Llanbedr based Canberra B(TT)2 WK143 was a fairly regular visitor to Benbecula for target towing duties on the missile ranges to the west of the Hebrides. Seen there between sorties on 25/5/83

Did this aircraft go to Llanbedr then? It was Flight refuelling's aircraft, based at Tarrant Rushton, for many years, wasn't it?

Its a while ago (and the memory is not so good!) but pretty sure it was a Llanbedr crew using a "Nugget" call-sign. I believe Tarrant Rushton closed in 1980 so guess it may have been transferred to RAE. WK143 had been originally converted for AAR trials along with WH734, another Llanbedr Canberra which visited Benbecula during the 1980s. By then I believe they were both TT18s.

What a superb thread, as a young kid, I was always facinated by the Jindivik's and often wondered what went on behind the doors of those hangars!
Brilliant pictures, thanks for posting them :thumb:

Delicious! More great pictures!

Were these all "official" MoD(PE) pictures originally? There must be so many official RAE shots that have never seen the light of day. Even now the occasional "new" one pops-up - not nearly enough of 'em though!

Somewhere out there, there must be photos of Llanbedr's lovely white (blue trimmed) Hunter too... !

Can recall a visit or two to Llanbedr back in the late 70s.
we used to go on camping Holidays on Shell Island and Barmouth as kids, think it was a open day, my Dad took some pics as he normally would have done.
so will have a look at some of his albums. need to have a dig through his albums as i am pretty sure he as Low level pics from the 70s. around Bala and low level routes in that area.

A few were official pictures but most were what my friend had taken over the years. There are a few ex-llanbedr guys on the base, I'll ask around for some more (especially the hunter)

This was in with the lot but I'm thinking more 'Valley' than 'llanbedr'

Still a good shot, pre-a55 too so must be a few years back!

Almost forgot about the little 'Alpha'

Lovely pics TN !
I was at Boscombe when JW brought meteor 800 in - we were disappointed not to get a flyby but could think of 3 or 4 reasons why not possible !!
I was sent over to inflate the tyres on 800 just before she was put up for sale,I guess they sent me because I am one of the few in our hangar who is almost as old as the a/c LOL
Also we still operate XX154 - although of course she is boring black these days :(

The red haired guy on the refuelling hose reminds me strongly of an SAC Ted Gamble I knew in the late 60's at Gutersloh - but I doubt if it would be the same guy ?
