Beautiful aircraft, great work with the scanning and pp.
Never worked the ADVs, but 19 yrs ago (original post), I was mid way through a brilliant GR tour with the mud-movers at Bruggen

These are Tornado F2s and I'm pretty sure they were retired long before 1994, are you sure it was '94?

Agreed !
Great shots but I reckon they were taken in late '85 or early '86.

Definitely F2's. Easiest way to tell is that they don't have the notch out of the rudder that the 104 engined F3's had.

Another indicator as the jets beig F2s rather than F3s - all the F2s had ZD serials, the F3s were ZE--- and later
After 'retirement' most of the 18 F2s were used to donate centre fuses to F3s damaged (by a not to be named contractor for legal reasons) during a Fatigue mod programme.
The 'surviving' F2s were I believe, ZD899 - which was kept by BAE as a development aircraft, and ZD902 which was modified by RAE Farnbrough (later QinetiQ) into the AFTV (Advanced Flight Test Vehicle or similar).

great shots

I really really miss the air defence variant of the Tonado
why did we let that one go into early storage
if I had my way they would still be in service
thanks for sharing
All the best

Hi Boston Swing,
Where do I start? I can confirm they are F.2's becuase I own the cockpit section of ZD938 'AR' so if I can get a copy of that picture that would be great as I have so few!
ZD938 'AR' retired in 1993 and became part of the 'Airworks' debarcle when around 15 airframes were crow barred by some of apprentices. The back half then became ZE295 and served again with 229 OCU /65 Sqn. Thanks so much for posting, had a little cry at this one!!!! Visit airpulford.com for more also a picture of her today along my mates F-4 ZE352 (ex Black Bunny)
