Hi all, just come across this superb snap from my fathers collection. He's got some superb pics if we can only find them again!! Interesting story on this Lancaster which i've only just read about - the Grand Slam bomb was 'LIVE' and had been for a number of years without anyone knowing!!! Imagine that happening now
Wow , fantastic, was the bomb really live?, crikey....please post the rest of the pics if you can...lovely picture although I agree about the trees ...Ciaran
Only problem is Goose thats not NX611 its R5868, but I agree it was always good to see 611 guarding the gate, I have a pic here http://www.flickr.com/photos/last_lightning/4293151123/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; of her being dismantled for the short trip to East Kirkby
We’re just in the final stages of raising a memorial bench to one of our former museum members Stan Bray and the 467 Squadron crew of R5868 ‘S’ for Sugar.
Stan passed away just before Christmas and he flew with P/O McClelland’s crew. The plaque for the bench is due to arrive tomorrow!
The inscription will read:
“In memory of Stan Bray & crew of ‘S’ for Sugar
RAF Wireless Operator
1661 HCU (trainee & instructor) RAF Winthorpe
467 (RAAF) Squadron”
