Not as exciting as some of my previous stories, but there aren't many pictures around on active Colombian Pucarás.

The Fuerzá Aerea Colombiana (FAC) received three FMA-58A Pucará in 1989 and operated them with Escuadrón de Operationes Especiales No.314 from Base Aérea Capitán Luis Francisco Gómez Niño near the town of Apiay, which was part of Comando Aéreo de Combate No.2 (CACOM 2).

The type was a relatively short time in active service and was retired already in 1996 and apparently sold to Uruguay as a source of spare parts.

Not as exciting as previous posts ?? They are brilliant and not something I would likely see, your posts from the Southern continent are a super record of what a lot of us on this forum would love to have seen in the flesh so to speak. Keep them coming!!

Lovely pics of a great looking aircraft. I've always thought of the Pucara as the ground attack version of the Jestream. Same engines and similar wing and undercarriage layout.

Thanks, your comments are much appreciated. Thinking back, I was very lucky as I could spend 3 days on the base, could move around freely on my own and was billeted in the officer's mess - and one highlight I remember well was seeing Hummingbirds around the quarters.

Unfortunately, the T-33s had been already out of service during my visit, but they got 5 on to the flightline for me to photograph. There will be more from Apiay in the future.
