Twenthe - April '82

The recent Twente (sic) post evoked memories of an all too brief visit I made back in April '82 during a rest stop on a journey to visit family in what was then West Germany. On a sunny Spring weekday the base was very busy with all the F-5s I saw being from 313 Sqn. the OCU for the type As we were about to leave I noticed a visiting F-104G emerge which was obviously intending to depart. I wanted to stay and watch that but was outvoted by my three female travelling companions who were impatient to be on their way!

Thanks for sharing these with us, nice to see the Northrops, I can think of someone who's going to be ecstatic about them too. My first Dutch show was at Eindhoven, then a Northrop base. Good to see the F-104 too.

Thanks for these, Michael. They remind of my time wandering around Eindhoven as the sun was fading and the F-5s were returning. I sat under the approach while munching on frites with mayonnaise being sold by a van in a lay-by. It wasn’t long before my bedraggled frame was spotted by an eagle-eyed Dutch moto-cop who told me to get to the local village for some lodgings. ;) The next day was my first Spotterdag at Volkel. My first of many ;). Great days!
