Rounding off the American visitors I got over the period, this small selection of interesting aircraft.

156173 EC130Q USN. Note the rod aerials between the nose and main wheels.

68-15964 OV1C. This aircraft had "Quicklook 1" stencilled in dark blue on the black anti dazzle panel but it doesn't really show up on these scans

77-0354 E3A USAF. I believe this was the first E3 to visit Lossie and on a subsequent tour there in 84-85 it was the only one I saw at Lossie.

Very nice Toom - thanks for sharing

Is the EC-130Q one of the early TACAMO aircraft? Thought they had pods on the wing tips but maybe not?

Cheers and thanks again

Darren

I haven't a clue Darren, it was sitting on the pan one day and I just went up to take a pic of it.

EC-130Q, usually did have the wing pods, but not all did.

I remember that E-3 taxiing out onto RW23 just as I was cycling down the golf course track, I would’ve been 12 at the time and I think it was a Sunday.

I missed those OV-1s and that E-3, but I noted the EC-130Q being here on 15/6/79.

My ageing memory might be playing tricks but I think the first E-3 to visit Lossie was 76-1607, which I saw on 17/2/79. It was such a memorable occasion that someone painted the serial on the inside wall of the pillbox! Others noted were 77-0355 on 15/5/79 and 77-0351 on 27/6/79. Later on we had 77-0356 on 10/7/80, 77-0353 on 26/8/81 and 75-0560 on 27/8/81. I also have a pic of 78-0578 on 1/11/80.

I've enjoyed all your posts from a great era at Lossie. Thanks for the memories!

I must have missed at least 3 E3's then Dagger. Probably on leave. I left in Feb 80 and didn't get posted back until 1984. Unfortunately I stopped keeping a note of dates I took pics when I changed over to an SLR camera for some reason and I wish I had done so now. I found it strange they weren't in more often or the EC121's before them, as they were doing the same role as 8 Sqn's Shacks.
