Reims-Champagne, June 9th 1974

This Sunday 50 years ago I visited the 'Portes Ouvertes' of Reims-Champagne, a French Air Force base in the north of France. It housed the 30th Escadre with the new Mirage F1 and the 62 Transport Escadre with Noratlasses. Taking pictures was very difficult with the flying display at a great distance and a large fence blocking a clear view on the runway. Stepladders were not part of our equipment in those days. The crowded static didn't help either. But the Noratlasses could be photographed to a certain extend. So in the end it was a day with lots of numbers but very few pictures.

Thanks for sharing Arnold, another "crisp" set, as always. No 2 for me :thumb:

Thanks Arnold, another great selection of shots, really enjoyed viewing them. The Noratlas has always been one of my favourite types. I note the Breguet positioned behind one Noratlas in a shot, the only one of those I ever saw was the one in the museum at Le Bourget. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Yes, I think they were still active with the 62nd Escadre. As far as I remember the one on the static was the same one as at Cambrai the year before which I posted last year.

Well up to your usual high standard, Arnold

The appearance of a Noratlas at a UK display was as rare as Hen’s teeth back in the day, so great to see those :thumb:

Thank you once again Arnold, for another superb look back in time to an era so very different from now.
Cheers.

What a fantastic set - thanks for sharing. That first Noratlas picture (62-KB) - what a cracker!

I only ever saw one Noratlas - landing early morning at the 1983 IAT, RAF Greenham Common.
