Linton Families Day '06

Post by F3 » Sun Mar 17, 2024 11:35 am

Came across a disc with pics of the '06 Linton Families Day which maybe of interest. While it was nt the best what would we give for such an event today? The 33 Sqn Ann. Puma was a bonus as was the arrival of a NAW Harrier. Sad to think that the days of this type were numbered thanks to the incoming Cameron 'Austerity' Government. Part of the exorbitant price we paid for baling out the greedy Banks. This sent Defence on a downward spiral from which it has never recovered and never will under the present Government. Hardly mentioned in the recent Budget. Yet whenever there is trouble anywhere in the world our 'leaders' always commit our forces to help sort it. Taxi for Rishi!

Couldn't agree more Mick with the sentiment about Families Days and, even, squadron exchanges having all but ceased. My worry is that our air force must be the most overworked in Europe and the high flying hours being accumulated will be taking its toll on airframes. We appear to be the only nation in the Eurofighter programme who isn't ordering new aircraft and, indeed, are talking of withdrawing the tranche 1 aircraft from service. Has any other nation scrapped any of their two seat Eurofighters? The obsession of "doing more with less" has become extreme in the UK!
