Achtung Messerschmitt!

Post by Tally-ho » Mon Jul 17, 2023 7:25 pm

And then the rain came ... resulting in a look of yesteryear.
The Me-262 had just landed at RAF Coningsby, and because of the drizzle and wind which impacts on sharpness of shot (clarity), I thought to do this picture in black & white, with its old(ish) looking structure in the background.
The fence at Crash gate 1 was busy from 11:00 onwards, we sat through two heavy rain showers (in our cars) and through much fenceline banter bided our time until the Me-262 arrived overhead at 15:20. I am working through my haul of pictures, many are in the bin already, and will show one or two more later.
Thank you for looking!

That picture is sure different and I like it a lot... Looks really like it was taken many many moons ago.

I think all your planning has paid off. That could sure be a wartime shot. Just needs an eagle carrying a Swastika on the side of that background building and no-one would be any the wiser (and maybe a Kubelwagen parked alongside).

Thank you indeed for the positive take on the picture! "Kubelwagen", that did bring a smile! Happy to know that you all 'get' the picture! :D

Thank you also to all who have had a look.

Onwards - two more of the arrival, I hope to hop over for the departure Wednesday 19th.

The state of play at RAF Coningsby this morning. I was there from 08:30 until 12:15, initially witnessing the Me-262 being fuelled up, followed by much visitations by young people (cadets?) in hi-viz jackets, also a pair of high heels in between it all. Movements in and around the BBMF hangar kept us interested, including a busy Typhoon activity schedule, but we could all see the approaching rain rolling in from the south-west.
At about 11:30 the heavens opened up with a heavy downpour, and that was that. I called it a day at 12:15.

Thank you raptor9!

Thank you all for your views and comments!

With a good weather forecast I'm sure we will bade Auf Wiedersehen to the visiting Me-262 today. Yesterday's rainy weather regardless, at least it spent its time in good company out on the flightline! :)

I was actually surprised that he wore one like that, because many of the War Bird pilots wear 'Bone-Domes', but many have opted for ones that have a special finish and shape that makes them look like authentic WW11 helmets. I was at a loss to understand, when everything else looked so authentic that the pilot hadn't got one of those!.
