100 Years of Aerial Refuelling

Post by mancman » Thu Jun 29, 2023 9:50 pm

This week the US Air Force marked 100 years of aerial refuelling. Next month's RIAT has a Skytanker theme. So here's a few photos to celebrate aerial refuelling. Feel free to add your own.

Very nice set Andy. I also like that 1st shot of the Victor but also that C-135F as have never seen one. I'll see what I've got to add as I was @ the 1st Skytanker themed event back in the '80s.

Love the C-135F at St Mawgan, I think we used to get them Tuesday and Thursday most weeks in the early 80's....

Thanks for sharing these, a great selection of shots and schemes. The French C-135 in bare metal scheme is nice to see. Comment has been made about the KC-97 and yes, it would be good to see some of them. About thirty years ago, I was at a show at Buchel in Germany and a pair of Tornadoes performed a FR demo using the buddy system.

Those were the days when we were allowed to go on such things with the RAF. It was certainly impressive to go nose to tail with another VC10

Just a couple of the more exotic tanker types caught down the years.
