Exercises Priory '85 + Mallet Blow '87 @ Binbrook

Post by F3 » Mon May 29, 2023 9:49 pm

I went to Binbrook to observe air exercises on several occasions during the '80s but on only two did I take slide film. The 1st was Exercise Priory in Oct. '85 when a RNoAF detachment comprising mostly F-5s but supplemeted by a couple of F-16s were based there. They were from Rygge as I recall. The 2nd was Exercise Mallet Blow in the summer of ''87 when no foreign visitors were seen altho' a quartet of 14 Sqn. Jags from Bruggen made a lunch stop.

RAF 80s nostalgia at its best - another winning post.

Minor point but the Jaguars were still GR1 or 1A at that time.

Fantastic - what I would give to visit Binbrook in it's heyday!

Are you sure about the 14 Squadron Jaguar date as 14 re-equipped with the Tornado GR1 in 1985?

A number of ex- 14Sqn Jaguars were operating from Coltishall in 1986 possibly longer. I will look through my old Norfolk Aviation Society reports when I get home to see if there is any further info.
