Luke AFB base visit 25th September 1979. Photo heavy.

A few days after visiting Yuma, it was on to Luke. No time to photograph anything flying as we were kept busy touring the various aprons.

All those 104's!!!

:Wow: :Wow: :Wow:

The only flying one I saw in the US was in '74. It flew up the Grand Canyon!!
No, we didn't get a photo or serial number. Although we did imitate it when we flew back to Tucson
But that was in a Cochise Airlines' Cessna 402 N7581Q
.
.
EDI Spotter since 1958 (When it was RAF Turnhouse)

Fantastic!

superb post

it's all a bit different now at Luke AFB - Various shades of Grey being the order of the day.

I didn't see a USAF F-104 in service

The F-104’s are obviously great, but those F-4C’s and the HH-3’s are special, you don’t see many of the latter.

Various shades is an under statement, even sun shades today. Boring!!!

My first base it was. Fuel spills under the aircraft from expansion of the fuel in the heat. My first driving job the tanker cranker, washing down the fuel spills. And even a P 2, fire truck standing by on the airvac.

Just wished I'd have taken more photos back then.

Bye this time I was over half way done with my next assignment at Bitburg.

A brilliant set! So good to see such quality images of what I consider 'proper' aircraft. Thanks for sharing.

Corrrr..... Now that takes me back :). I was there in May '79. At that time the '104s were grounded but at least they were all where we could see them ;)
