Volkel april 1982, Starfighter heaven!

Until the early eighties Volkel organised two spotterday's a year. One of the best was on April 14th when 35 Dutch Starfighters could be seen and als some nice visitors! All three Volkel squadrons still flew with the 1-0-4 but 311sq had one first F16A J-252 to get used to the new frame.

Absolutely wonderful to see these, thanks for sharing them with us. The thought of 35 F-104s is heaven for some of us mature enthusiasts. Sadly there's only one on display in the UK, the Danish example at the Midland Aircraft Museum. Photo days would be welcome in the UK too, but seem unlikely to happen at anytime. Some great shots here though.

What a beautiful post Harold. Yes, those were the days with the regular spottersdays at Volkel. I remember them well. I always felt lucky when I got the invitation because there were always far more people requesting access than the hundreds of places available.
Thanks a lot for posting these images that brought back good memories of the 80's. As said before: we didn't realise how lucky were then.

Miss the howl it was the sound of the 104 remember at one RIAT a Tiger stripped 104 went down the Runway howling like a Tiger. There was also the Vikings German Navy F104’s 1 would arrive nice and gently doing an overshoot number 2 would come through like a Bat out of Hell and scare everybody to death.
