My birthday present to me! 10 Days on the east coast USA - Udvar-Hazy, AMC Museum at Dover, Pax River and Dayton.

All for less than a Spitfire flight would have cost me.

An immense museum that is not the easiest to take photos in (to say the least). Recently some of the galleries have been upgraded to include incandescent and LED lighting which tend to give ultra-bright spots to confuse the camera, at times my phone was coping better than my DSLR.

I thought I’d start with some unique a/c – reading the (excellent) placards one can only wonder at the bravery of the test pilots and the vision of the engineers in the 50s and 60s.

That’s it for now. If anybody can PM me how to multiple drops of the BB code I’d be grateful as doing 500+ individually will be irritating.

To come (don’t rush me)
WW1/WW2
Korea/Vietnam/Cold War
All the President’s Men.

A lovely selection. Some amazing aircraft there. Always liked the X-3 since an uncle gave me a model of it when I was a kid. I look forward to your other posts, in your own good time! Thanks for these.

Thanks for sharing these, some great shots there and look forward to seeing more. I too built a kit of the X-3 Stiletto, think it was produced by Revell.

Some amazing types in this series.

Lighting looks like a nightmare, so good work on the photography.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Paddy,
I used my legs and monopod to form a tripod and trusted to the p setting.
Only 2 F-5s, that one with the forward facing wings and the prototype painted as a shoski tiger and hanging too high. But I did get a nice one at Pax River.
The Revell Stilletto kit was one on my early models and I think was scaled to fit the box along with other x- planes

Went there 10 years ago , an amazing collection in rather subdued lighting.
