'USAF' Cessna 150

Am slowly clearing up questions on old slides that I have taken, this 1966 Cessna 150G was photographed at Kissimmee in 1999, not sure if it is ex USAF example or a civilian aircraft with aspirations...... I know the USAF Academy operated several as the T-51. Any offers ?

a piece of the jigsaw - In the mid 1970s N3631J C150G belonged to the Fort Stewart Aero Club at Hunter AAF in Georgia.

Quite a few USAF bases have/had "Flying Clubs" with an officially sanctioned but privately registered GA aircraft. The one at Upper Heyford could be seen flying around the area many weekends of the year. Pretty sure most of the fighter bases had them in the 80s

Planebase has N3631J as a plain C-150E and no previous Military ID

All T-41s were based on the Cessna 172 and mostly had civil registrations. There were about 200 in the area N5100F onwards - For the main batch Joe Baugher has - 65-5100/5269 Cessna T-41A Mescalero - USAF version of Cessna 172F procured for use by civilian contract flying schools. Also carried civil registrations N5100F/N5269F.
There were some later FY 67- and later serials also

This was a T-41A in AZ in 1974

Thanks for the replies, have photographed several T-41's over the years and the civil Cessna 150 at the Castle Museum which is painted up as USAF. I suspect this aircraft may have been originally US Government funded or sponsored in some form if it ended up at a military base flying club. The USAF Academy T-51's are 71 fiscal and this is a 66 produced machine, the T-50 title is confusing and leads to random speculation...

In England certainly. I generally regarded that every US base had a flying club, with a random assortment of Civil types usually Cessna or Piper. e.g. https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/operator/U ... ing%20Club. and see viewtopic.php?t=161133

Lakenheath Aero Club used an ex-USAF T-41A in the early 1970s - N5162F. You can just see the painted out 'USAF' under the port wing in my photo.

Re: N5162F (ex-65-5162). My log for September 23rd 1973 shows it carried the Air Training Command shield on the fin. Meanwhile here's another 150 which was flown by the SAC Aero Club at Moron, Spain. Pictured at Toussus-le-Noble, France it had recently transferred to the Chateauroux Aero Club and later was passed on to Bitburg.
