Waddington Arrivals Day 1995

Post by TimFoo » Fri May 27, 2022 9:11 am

Little trip up from Cornwall with some mates, left Thursday night and drove up, went to Mildenhall, Lakenheath, Cottesmore, Cranwell and Waddington. Then caught a ferry and went to Koksijde, then Volkel for the shows. Left Volkel midday Saturday and went to Hanau, Wiesbaden, Budingen, Coleman Barracks and Heidelburg. Sunday went to Florennes and then Phalsbourg for a show and then back to Cornwall. Here is Waddington arrivals day..

Looks like you struck lucky with the weather. The Saturday was darn cold and overcast as I recall and the following year was even worse, wet and very windy. Seem to remember it blew away the stall of the Swedish Viggen pilots.

Thanks for sharing these, those were the days when Waddington had plenty of variety on show. Apart from the various fast jets, nice to see the Nord 262. Always liked these and saw lots of French military examples, from both the Air Force and Navy.

Excellent collection. I was there, but still didn't remember seeing the RJAF Historic Flight featuring the Hawker Hunter T7 (G-BOOM / 800) & DH.Vampire FB.6 (Ex J-1106 Swiss Air Force) until now!

I remember talking to a member of aircrew at the time who said that the 8Sqn C/O had thrown a massive fit because the scarab on the AWACS for the special markings had been applied the wrong way round and it had.
