Hunter Week - Part 1

Post by dennis273 » Mon Mar 14, 2022 1:58 pm

Apart from the Spitfire is there a more elegant aircraft - I'm struggling to think of one - although of course beauty is ion the eye of the beholder :)

Also who could forget the "Blue note". Maybe, like the Spitfire and the distinctive sound of the Merlin, beautiful aircraft have a great sound.

My favourite aircraft.

Well, it was until the Lightning came along

But an ATC camp at Chivenor in '64 still had me drooling.

Thanks for sharing these, the Hunter was another favourite if mine, in fact it still is. I think that I must have seen practically all those still in service in the late seventies. I remember the 1976 IAT at Greenham Common, when there was a line of 25 examples in the static. Nice to see the pic of XF375 as it's still preserved at Old Sarum in that scheme.

Brilliant dennis273, what an absolute British classic, it still looks graceful in the sky or on the ground.
Cheers.

Remember being used as a target by Hunters on SPTA when on BASO back in the 60's, after they had pulled up an away you suddenly got hit by the slipstream. Difficult to explain but It was like several blasts of air from a pneumatic pump. Interested to know if any other members had the experience.

My old dad would have agreed with that sentiment. Absolutely loved the type. In terms of design I think it just has the edge on the F-35! LOL

XF375 is displayed in the earlier red scheme with a white spine and fin at Old Sarum.

Lovely pics.
