My first trip to England, Alconbury 12-15 August 1968

Post by Keflavik69 » Sat Mar 12, 2022 2:08 pm

During my hicking trip a couple of very rewarding days were spent at Alconbury. Since I already posted RF-4C's of the 10TRW at the end of December last year I will just post a few of them this time. To give an idea of the flying activities, my logbook shows the Wing flew around 25 Phantoms each day and a total of 44 were seen.
While I was there RF-104G's of AKG52 of the West German Air Force were also flying around. I do not know whether that was a NATO exchange visit or some kind of exercise. The size of the batch is a far cry from what we are used to nowadays.
I hope the images are of interest.

WOW!! another stunning set, those F5’s will please a certain someone on the group. The F102’s are my favourites, but all are pretty special.

Another fantastic set Arnold.

I would have loved to see a "grey" F-4 and as for the Noratlas, F-5's and F-102's - words fail me!

Superb

Thanks Arnold, another stunning set of photos, Very interesting to see the F-5s on delivery, also the F-102 going the same way. The German Noratlas is nice to see, I only ever saw one Luftwaffe example in service. Thanks for taking the time to share these with us.

Another super post - the scans are so clear

(I enjoy looking up the serials for these photos. Over ten years later I saw 64-1001 as SW , F-104G 24+85 and the Herc 40549)

Superb stuff as usual, just when you don't think it can't get much better it does. I would have been delighted to get half of that selection on a trip. So many stand out items but have to mention the F102 and F5s, but the RF104s and Noratlas impress as well. Thanks again for putting these up.
