Nice image of a fantastic aircraft.
I was only lucky enough to see one example landing at Mildenhall, unfortunately when I was still shooting B & W.
Not sure if I still have the negatives - and it was probably shot using a Practica camera using something like an old milk bottle as a lens so would be nowhere near this quality!

I always loved these and it was nice to see a great shot of such an 'early' one
But I'm not going to be popular!
Being an old git & the possessor of an Airband Gauers then, I'd seen 23 in or over Prestwick between '64 & '66
I then had an 8 yr gap until I went to MASDC in Sept '74, when I logged 145 of them!

Ugly but quite magnificent aircraft in a way. Never saw any in active service, only as museum piece.

They were one of my regular sightings as a teenager living near LAP... (now known as Heathrow!). My VHF radio would pickup them along Green 1 at Woodley, after which they went Northeast past Watford or continue east over Epsom/Biggin Hill and out Europe past Dover. Not sure if my recollection of the Flight Level of 9000 to 13000FT but certainly remember the drone of proper piston engines. KC97s were also regulars on their way to TDY duties in Germany. The C130s & C133s were later regulars, higher but also easily heard if not always seen. Great memories triggered by great photographs. Thanks to all who are contributing them. Mike

Excellent memories of these and KC97’s trundling over Woodley in the late 60’s early 70’s, listening to them on an old VHF air band radio, a very distinctive sound.

Wow another really gorgeous nostalgic shot
So cool that these old pictures can be digitally rendered.
I didn't ever get to see an operational C-124 and only noted two preserved , one at Pima and 21072 at Charleston which seems odd as there are quite a few C-123 providers dotted around.

Being (possibly) an even older 'old git' than eLaReF , used to see loads of these beauties at Burtonwood in the mid/late 50's mainly MATS Atlantic division . In those days we could bike accross the 27 taxiway (seriously) to the 'spotters heaven' alongside the crash station . Thing I remember about the Globey was how it clanked , rattled , banged and squeeled as it taxied past - just wonderful . Great post mate and lovely approach shot

Wow, Burtonwood was up the road from me in Widnes, I used to occasionally drive up there in the 1980's to see the old airfield and (Mary Anne)tech site, (Fred Dibnah dropped the tower in 88). I tied to google map the place recently and sad to say, it's been developed so much that now even the footprint has been erased

I wouldn't mind betting you were around when the B-36s turned up

Thanks for posting that shot Keflavik69. I never got to see one fly nor indeed a C-133 for that matter. No doubt you have some C-133 shots in your marvellous archive too!

I remember a Globemaster parked on some waste ground in Las Vegas close to Mcarran Airport. Probably 1997 when the USAF 50th anniversary show was on at Nellis. I think there were plans for it to become some sort of attraction (bar or restaurant?). I assume nothing came of this and its now long gone.

“ Banged, squealed, clanked and rattled”. That sums up a taxiing Globemaster, truly wonderful sounds. Thanks for the memories chaps.
