Finally XX897 Buccaneer S2B(mod) with a modified nose used to test the Foxhunter radar for the Tornado ADV, photographed at Bournemouth in 1998. Was kept in running condition for a while but is now painted in a non standard colour scheme and displayed at a museum in Shannon:

Very nice, another sadly missed type from airshows. Thank you for sharing these.

Hi Keith :P

Superb set there

The Bucc always caught you by surprise at Air Fetes with its incredibly low entry :Wow:

Thanks for posting :thumb:

Fantastic collection there Keith, thankyou for posting. The Buccaneer was an excellent trials platform, lots of space and power!

XV344 has a standard nose fitted, I'm not sure if by that time TIALD was a podded system. It was fitted originally with a chisel nose off XN923 that was used with the early Ferranti TICM equipment. (I posted a pic on the original FC website.) A colleague re-stressed it for use on the S2.
You are missing XT272 (from memory) which was the survivor of 2 converted by Marshalls for Tornado GR1 radar testing.

I seem to remember that as boy I had a Matchbox (toy cars, not model kits) Buccaneer that was yellow and black like XW988. The wings folded up which was cool. I also had a red and white Tomcat with swinging wigs - also cool!

Thanks for posting.

Ferrari

Leuchars BoB shows were good for that - They came in off the North Sea at a very low level and fast.
You could spot those in the know - They were looking left. The rest of the crowd were looking all over and usually jumped when it went past unnoticed - until the noise arrived.
