Duxford 1983

Post by mancman » Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:48 pm

Back in the day before the newer buildings were constructed many of the exhibits were displayed outside or in the original hangars. Here's a few from a very sunny October day back in 1983.

Thanks for sharing these, I used to like visiting Duxford in those days. Less crowded and cheaper! Sadly both the Convair and the Varsity are no longer with us, I can remember seeing some of the chopped up remains of the latter in a scrapyard in Essex in the nineties. I think that Me163 was returned to Germany as well, possibly now at Gatow. I'm pretty sure I saw it there about seven years ago.

Thanks eLaReF, I knew one had gone to Germany. At one time there were six Komets displayed in British museums, so maybe four is a reasonable number!

Great set. I visited Duxford in July (first trip away since start of Covid) and it is interesting to see how far the museum has come since 1983. It is good to see the Victor back to bare metal and being restored. It looked in a sorry state outside a few years ago.
Great place
