Belgian Heliday's 2001

Post by hvaneupen » Sat May 08, 2021 12:51 pm

On June 3th 2001 Bierset AB in Belgium hosted their (then) annual Heliday's. As alway's a large variety of civilian and military helicopters could be seen, both from the West as the East.

A nice selection of choppers, something we don't see enough of these days. Thanks for sharing these.

Thanks for posting :thumb:

Great memories of a super event. Interesting to see the third from last 'special' BO-105 does in fact feature a Grasshopper & tail-boom in the Demo-team colours as homage to its previous 299 sqn "Grasshoppers" helicopters.
That'll give PB nightmares!

Paddy+1. Nice pics, but if God meant helicopters to fly, he would have given them proper wings. {flippant, of course. They DO do wonderful work! :thumb: :thumb: ] Hope my nephew doesn't see this. He's an ex- Army stick whirler.

The Grasshopper is 299 Sqn logo/emblem/mascot.
The Bo105 is special.painted for 25 years operation of the type with the Squadron. And yes the Grasshoppers display was formed within 299 Sqn in 1973 . And disbanded in 1995 so (lucky for PB) no sign of them anymore in 2001. :P

And those Belgium helidays were a very nice airshow with special and rarely seen (in these parts of Europe) military helicopters from all over Europe. Always liked them a lot, sadly gone as well. :(
