Another great selection, thank you for sharing these. It was another interesting selection of types from various air arms that were present. Looking at the log there were four Meteors flown in for the event and several display teams. This was also the first IAT to feature the F-16, with a pair of Norwegian examples on the flightline and a single Dutch machine in the static. Other highlights were the Jordanian F-5Es and the Spanish AF F27. Happy days!

*Sigh* My god, how blessed we were then, the cornucopia of types, not much grey, halcyon days indeed.

On a side note, I’m starting a go fund me page to get a time machine . . . . .

No matter how many times i see photos from the early Air Tattoos they never fail to impress me with the shear variety of types. My first was 85 and although excellent was not really the same quality as the earlier Greenham shows. Times were starting to change.

This was my first ever show, I remember my jaw banging on the floor when I got of the bus from the station.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

The mention of the Jordanian F-5's has prompted me to have another look in slide box and I've now found another box of K64's including the the F-5's and Spanish F-27. I'll post once I've processed them. I'm finding these old card mounted slides take a lot of cleaning up before they are ready for publishing.

I used to love the Greenham Shows, we used to Live in Thatcham so only a couple of miles from the base.

The Canadian 104's I remember vividly coming Low over the house on the Run in for their display (pre all the new regs) & lighting the burners in order to come into the show at what must have been very, very close to Mach 1. I also remember the German 104 on it's high speed run down the crowd line at LL being a good way down the runway before any noise hit.

IIRC we went on the Saturday with my uncle & cousin, I think it was raining in the morning but brightened up for the afternoon. but I may be mistaken after all it was 40yrs ago.

IAT83 was an equally fantastic show.
