Fabulous Andy! Cerainly makes me feel old seeing all those types. Never did a Greenham - my first IAT was Fairford 1985 but like most I wish I'd started a bit earlier. Thanks for another great posting.

Thanks for sharing these, it was a great show and the C-130 line up had some exotic machines included. The Greenham shows were something special.

Not often you see a pic of a 3-bladed C130

Brilliant Andy - my 3rd IAT after 76 & 77 - only had an instamatic camera then and nothing has survived so really nice to see these especially the US Navy contingent and the C-130s
Only up there walking the dog yesterday - certainly a different place now
Cheers
Darren

I think that Jetstar was the one that got bulldozed into the ground at Mildenhall in 1992. Just spotted the T-39, it's USAF and not USN.

Thanks for spotting my T-39 typo. I think I have a few more from this show including the Alcock & Brown F-4. Will dig them out and post more when I get a minute. Here's a few more for the moment.

My first IAT as well. Spent what seemed like an age stuck in traffic for the 1977 event with my late Father before we gave up and turned round, only to find we were only about half a mile from the gates!

My first Greenham too....and you never forget your first time !
Trolled up there with my older brother in his mkII Cortina. It rained so hard that we sheltered in a marquee until the weight of the water.literally snapped the wooden poles holding the tarp up ! Later the parking area was so muddy I had to push his car out of the.mud.
Having said that - brilliant show, wouldn't have.missed it for the world !!!

Loved Greenham there was something about that place. The static was always full of beautiful machines and the flying display was so varied. Early Fairford was also good again with some incredible paint schemes including loads of Tiger paint jobs. Now feel sorry for the younger generation as to what they’ve missed and the fact that everything is Grey. Favourite machines F4’s particularly the 57th FIS machines and the Russians.

What a great collection of nostalgia. I was an active spotter in the late 60's and the 1970's; I really miss the pistons, props and pure jets

As fox4g stated, some of the paint schemes were simply marvellous and the sound of the distinctive engines on some airframes were truly memorable e.g. the ground trembling trundle of a C-133, the drone of a C-97, the almost whisper of the C-54, C-118 and C-121's the thwack of the C-119, Caribou and Noratlas and of course the distinctive vapour trail of a C-141. I agree that the youngsters have missed an incredible era. Very many thanks for sharing the pics and making an older man remember the good old days!
