Lossiemouth c1970
Hello All. Some pics from Lossie in 1970, give or take a year or two.
Apologies in advance for the dubious quality of some of them. As a poor schoolboy at the time I couldn't afford a decent camera. Most of these were taken on a Franka Solida I, an old beast with a fold-out bellows lens and a top shutter speed of 1/200th sec, taking 12 exposures on 120 film. I bought the camera from a classmate for the princely sum of £2! Alas the bellows weren't totally light-proof, resulting in the left side of some shots being differently exposed to the right side. But as a friend of mine often says, a cr*p photo it better than no photo!
I've included a couple of "little Northrops" for Paddyboy.

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
Really interesting shots.
Any idea about the USAF F-5s; I am sure I have never seen reference to the USAF having As or Bs (especially in SEA camo) in Europe let alone in the UK. Over to Graham L I suspect.

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
Great stuff, I just love these old shots.
The F-5B is presumably 68-9091 on delivery to Iran but was the F-5A 21175 already wearing it's Iranian serial?
Or am I completely talking nonsense?
EDIT :- Aha!!! 67-21175 went to South Vietnam :- http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_fighters/f5_2.html
68-9091 is listed here as going to Iran :- http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_serials/1968.html

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
These were on delivery to Iran. I saw around 100 delivered through Lossie marked with the star and bar and USAF serials, though most of those went to Turkey and Greece. The exotic camo ones though we're going further afield! F-5A 21175 is its USAF serial. I believe it subsequently was sold to South Vietnam.
Edit: Sorry for repeating info Mike. You were in before I had my reply posted!

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
Brilliant ,some lovely stuff there
Re: Lossiemouth c1970
Thank you honest man. Yes, exciting and interesting times back then. A DSLR would have been a godsend!
Re: Lossiemouth c1970
I've said that many times!!!
Recognise the odd pill-box shot there.
The problem I had taking pics there was that they were very close and going quite quickly, so, as you panned, the nose of the aircraft was going at a different speed from the back & with my primitive camera, I never got both sharp at the same time - even the Sea Princes!

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
I know exactly what you mean eLaReF. That was the downside of working only with the equivalent of a standard lens. Step further back and the subject was tiny in the frame.

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
My first camera was an Agfa Rapid thingy that just had a bright and dark light adjustment switch, Mother insisted on using slide film as it was much cheaper to get developed. This was 54 years ago!
One of the shots that I took with it, please excuse the awful quality...............
And then my Pentax ME Super came along, bought for £20 from Bruce a few years later who was a Lossie spotter, he was a security man at Baxter's in Fochabers but moved back South in around 1990.

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
Just one word for the above pic - FANTASTIC! What a first attempt. Have to say tho' you had some pretty decent subject matter.
Re: Lossiemouth c1970
An AGM-12’Bullpup’ on a Bucc, that’s a new one on me??
If only I was ten years older, by the time I started spotting at Lossie a lot of the exotic stuff had passed, although it was still pretty good up until the late nineties. The Balkan conflicts and the ‘Twin Towers’ killed it.

Re: Lossiemouth c1970
I think we've all said that at some time, with the addition of DSLR's having been invented at the same time.

What memories for us oldies There are some nice bits of kit about in these modern times, but I count myself lucky to have followed our amazing hobby through from a young lad in the sixties and to have seen so many types Thanks for sharing those memories
