The RAF mid-week summer airshows

Post by Gruncle 01 » Tue Jul 14, 2020 6:48 pm

RAF St.Mawgan held their airshows mid week in August to take advantage of the holiday makers during the summer holidays.
There are 2 years depicted in these pictures 1974 and 1976. All again scanned from my slides.
Firstly 06/08/1974,

Classic shows and great shots.
I was at the 76 show and was most surprised and impressed when the Sandringham flew over, such grace !

Great post Michael
Remember my one and only St.Mawgan show in 1980 a brilliant place for foreign aircraft not normally seen ... French Neptune on approach. Special USN P3s working inlcluding 'El Coyote'

Great captures of the 'special ones'. I do remember one sunny evening at the fence at Binbrook hearing and seeing this large piston aircraft lumbering by and wondering what an earth it was ... an Argus wasnt first thought! What a sight he was on his way down to St.Mawgan.

Thanks for sharing these, another great selection of shots for years gone by. Would have loved to have done more shows here, but only managed 1991 and 1992. Nice to see the Hastings, but the Argus was always something special.
