Bright Star - Egypt November 1989

Post by hawgwash » Thu Apr 16, 2020 4:44 am

I've posted a few of these shots over the years to various forums but never really put them into a group. I was a B-52G weapons guy with the 379th Bomb Wing when I got notice that I was going to attend Bright Star 1990 at Cairo West. Bottom line is I ran out of slide film, print film and was almost arrested several times for photographing Egyptian AF aircraft. I shot several hundred more but many were lost in PCS moves across the Atlantic to Lakenheath, Barksdale, Aviano, Molesworth and other exotic locations (Molesworth?) Still, here are a few from that trip.

Lovely shots from a rarely covered country !
Mig21, Rhinos and even a Buffalo !!
wheels within wheels in a spiral array - a pattern so grand and complex
Time after time we loose sight of the way - our causes can't see their effects

Rare photos indeed.
I was very interested to see the Alpha jet in the background of photo1 because it seems to have the orange id panels often seen on the fighters.
The Mirage in the final picture appears to have the black circles in the centre of the roundels extended in size, at least temporarily - any ideaswhy?

That was the standard rounded on the Mirage V’s, not sure why it differed from the other types though
