Excellent stuff, love the timeworn Phantoms. Shame the WR Aggressors didn’t last, would have looked great in some interesting camo schemes!

Lovely post

Brings back memories of driving in through the main gate to the carpark by the fence and trying to read the visitors with out being noticed. Then across the road for some of the best burgers in the world!

Every time I see a thread from UH, it proves that I didn't go there enough. Silly me.

Phantastic Phantom pics depicting well the change in camo. If that's a Gulf War mission tally on the splitter plate in that last shot then it helps us date them. As I recall the camo change occurred around that time.

Remember doing that too. Visited most weeks back in the day as it was my nearest base back then - how times have changed :( :( :(

I remember once being challenged by an Airman carrying a weapon that was bigger than him but when I showed him my then UH Aviation Society Membership card he was more than happy and went on his way. Happy Days

Heyford was my nearest fast jet base but still I suppose about 60 miles from Surrey.

I remember having to make the trip twice in one day when two lots of Eglin Eagles turned up , call sign CROW if I remember correctly. Mad really as I probably saw them all again either at Eglin airshow or Lakenheath. Crazy days.

Its a great post Kev - as usual.
The F-16 was arriving on the 23 June'89 for the static at the non-public At Home Day held on the 24th. Didn't we help put the barriers up? Got the date of the F-4's somewhere will post if I find it.
Frequently went to the base going back to the early 60's and had many great days there, including the one that Slogin51 was possibly referring to - Sunday 11th Oct'87. Got 4 red Eglin Eagles departing to Bentwaters at 1349L as "Crow 1-4" then 4 blues arrived at 1630L from Bitburg as "Zapper 1 -4". Also that afternoon a C-23 arrived and departed, a Maryland ANG C-130B "Ross73" arrived and a rare SH-60 from the USS Underwood dep to Culdrose as "Navy424"
