A cold bright day at Duxford made bearable by 3 Spitfires and 2 Hurricanes flying although the clouds did roll in at the most inopportune moments. The Yale was also up and down on circuits and amongst the visiting GA types was a small group of autogyros with a relative of James Bond’s Little Nellie’s flying in. 'Big Nellie'. Apart from the last one, in the order taken.
North American NA-64 Yale 1/3349/(G-BYNF)
Hawker Hurricane Mk.1/SD-X/V7497/(G-HRLI)

Supermarine Spitfire Mk Ia/QV/N3200/(G-CFGJ)
Supermarine Spitfire Mk Ia/QV/N3200/(G-CFGJ) + Hurricane Mk.1/(G-HRLI)

Not quite Hollywood but BBC News were filming at Duxford today. Sophie Raworth went for a flight in the Aerial Collectives Spitfire T9/PV202, filmed by the BBC News Ecureuil II helicopter followed by the IWM Museums Mk1a Spitfire/N3200. Down side was the wall to wall cloud and naff lighting, and a cold wind. In the order taken.

In line with advice from Public Health England, IWM has taken the decision to close all of its sites in effect from the end of today (Tuesday 17 March) until further notice.

Highlight of the day was the appearance of Spitfire PRXIX/(F-AZJS). It was just about to go for a first flight this afternoon, but was aborted and the last I saw was it being returned to the hangar for a bit more TLC. It did fly later in the day after I had left. In the order taken.

While waiting for the French Spitfire to fly, we were entertained by a pair of North Weald based Westland Scout helicopters who came in for a bit of circuit bashing and auto-rotational landing practice that involved sliding along the grass on their skids. XV126/50K was wearing a scheme worn by Scouts in Germany in 1980 on Exercise Crusader. Eurocopter EC155B1/(A7-HMD) from Stansted also joined them in the circuit. In the order taken

Have seen a solitary Scout from time to time at my bungalow in Chedburgh, but a really nice surprise to see both of them in formation the other day. Nice pictures, Brian. [No change there then!!!]
