RSAF C-54A wftu Jeddah
RSAF C-54A wftu Jeddah
Had seen this on a previous business trip to Jeddah and with the assistance of the driver from the local office was able to photograph it one lunchtime. It appeared to be destining to be displayed on a new roundabout but subsequently ended up on display at the Saqr al-Jazira Aviation Museum in Riyadh

Now that's a good way to start the day! Any idea what the Saqr al-Jazira Aviation Museum is like?
Re: RSAF C-54A wftu Jeddah
Never been to the Saqr al-Jazira Aviation Museum, after my time in Saudi but on line photo's suggest a large investment of money....

Nice photo!
Was this the only C-54 operated by the Saudi Air Force?

I went to the museum on a "team building" visit (my team, my choice :-) in 2014. Although the outside exhibits were looking a bit rough, due mostly to the climate, the ones inside were immaculate. As the museum as adjacent to the very large Riyadh airbase, we were followed around by security discretely whilst outside so that we didn't attempt to photograph any of the comings and goings on the adjacent runway.
Very interesting place, with a Saudia Tristar as one of three gate guards. Assume it must have been flown into the base then dismantled for the journey round the corner, otherwise it would have been carnage getting it there from the main airport!
Defintely worth a visit.

Hi,
I have been there a couple of times opening time are a bit erratic, 1st time family's only did not get in etc this is normal in Saudi! 2nd got in, I was ok for photos had to be careful though. They were curious when l was trying to find the con number on a unmarked T33 outside....l told them l used to fly them in the airforce!!!! They were happy with that. Two things any know where the con plate is on a T33? Secondly l have never flown a T33!
Cheers

Very interesting Keith, I photographed her in terrible condition in the dessert back in 1981. When they closed the old Jeddah airport and airbase, I risked trying to get some pics of the aircraft dumped out in the middle of the airport. Your C-54A is seen in pic 6 and the underwing serial is in pic 16 in the link below along with lots of other aircraft. unfortunately just as I was about to photograph the A-26 Invaders a police patrol car was cruising along the newly constructed highway and I had to leave like real fast, you did not need to be caught photographing out there...
