Ryan Field Sept 1974

Like Dakotas??
Maybe best to click away from this page

A selection from Ryan Field in 1974, the day after tour tour of MASDC.
The Aero American Corporation had bought a bunch of them from MASDC and were slowly re-building some and scrapping the others that were used for spares. There was a mix of types I had never heard of such as RC-47D, SC-47D & C-117C etc. (I hadn’t even known you got C-117s that weren’t re-treads with different engines and taller tails)
I very carefully read off all the TDB's so the types in Flickr (E&OE) are what was on the aircraft. But I always understood that most C-47B's (I.e. with blowers for 'The Hump' use), were redesignated C-47D's once these were removed, but the TDB didn't seem to get repainted

So this was one time where the film rationing went out the window and what follows is only some of the 40 odd we saw, not counting the numerous tail-cone & fin sections that were lying around.

What a fabulous post! We often go back to the 80s but anything from this period or earlier is really good to see. Bit of a sad sight but at least some got rebuilt.

Keep 'em comin' please!

I've posted Miramar, Edwards, El Toro & North Island already
The only one left to do from that trip is MASDC itself.......
