Castle Air Museum

Post by quid21 » Sat Oct 12, 2019 5:39 pm

While on a road trip around California we stopped at Castle Air Museum.

Aside from other fantastic exhibits, they have a B-58 Hustler which is being rebuilt/restored. The two gentlemen were very friendly and allowed me to take some close up photos from inside the fence.

This is one of many places I keep missing on my few trips to CA (Chino, N Island, San Diego Museum are others)
Love the Hustler, having seen 80 of it's stablemates at MASDC in '74 before they were scrapped.

It’s the first time I’ve seen one of those beauties. Apparently it’ll take a year or two for complete restoration.

Love the B-58, only a few of which visited the UK. One of those I did see was 61-2059 at Greenham Common in Oct'63 departing back to its base at Bunker Hill a few days after its record breaking flight from Kadena. This was the real `Greased Lightning` - 55-0666's an imposter!

Yeah they mentioned that they were going to realign it’s identity. With 666 it’s amazing it didn’t crash!!
