Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
Some interesting subjects there. Believe the 'unknown replica WW1 biplane to be Old Warden's Bristol Boxkite. My favourite is the CF-104 in natural metal finish.

Think you'll find Heron is one BBMF had? looks like their hangar too. Interesting stuff, bit different to the norm
Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
(2) This B-25 Mitchell is actually N7614C and this shows it at Luton circa 1971.
(3) This An-12 CCCP-11719 looks like Heathrow. It visited there in July 1970.
(8) Sea Hawk FGA.6 WV828 coded 037, could well be Lee on Solent
(9) another Sea Hawk, probably Lee on Solent also.
(11) Westland Whirlwind at Lee on Solent
(16) This Canadian 104 104762 was present at the Wildenrath show July 1970 and the barriers match from another shot as well as being flanked by a Fiat G91 and a Phantom.
(27) Sadly, this Avro 707 VX784 was only airborne in September 1949 - it first flew and crashed in that month.
(29) Auster Antarctic WE600 on display at Abingdon June 1968. Other photos show the same aircraft in the background.

Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
As for the Heron - no that is a Royal Navy one, and the BBMF had a Dove rather than a Heron.
Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
Thank you for the help. I think it's my scanner that's the problem, it's a 2-in-1 with my printer, they are much clearer in the flesh. All I've done to them is to crop and remove some hairs.eLaReF wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 10:52 pmGood series & variety

Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
Thank you. They were bought from an online auction with about 175 civilian types. I believe No. 5 is a Shuttleworth machine as well. Those two pictures were printed on the same type of paper.
Yes, I like the CF-104 as well, so much nicer than the later camouflaged one's.
Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
Thank you very much . There is nothing written on the back of the photographs so I've had to guess using Flickr where possible.clickaway wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 7:53 pm(2) This B-25 Mitchell is actually N7614C and this shows it at Luton circa 1971.

(30) The Hunting H.126 is at Le Bourget, Paris in June 1965. The attached photo does show it parked next to Jet Provost which is also visible in your shot.
https://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive ... ng%20paris
Its only other public appearance was at Gaydon in 1966, and it is clearly not there.

Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
Can only suggest having a look at your scanner settings and see if 'noise reduction' is ticked
In my early scanning days, I used it but soon realised the 'muddy' appearance was not what I wanted
I've done a quick demo

Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
Hello, It doesn't have a noise reduction option but I've changed the resolution from 200 to 1200. The file size went from 337kb (943 x 649px) to 1.58mb (6132 x 4248px) then cropping using Photoshop it went to 9.13mb (5652 x 3882px)eLaReF wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 10:45 pmCan only suggest having a look at your scanner settings and see if 'noise reduction' is ticked

Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
I scan negs at 4,800 dpi if not 9600 and prints probably as you,1200 (File size around 30Mb after P/Shop finished - explains why my desktop uses 3Tb drives!!)
There is an argument that any image with more pixels across than your screen is a waste, but I'm looking to the future!!
Certainly an improvement - you can read titling.
Well done.

Re: Various military images from the 1960s and 70s
Photo 1
Taken at North Weald between 1989 and 1995. The aircraft are TB-25J 430823/N1042B '69' Dolly, which left the based Aces High Ltd in 1995; ex-Hungarian AF MiG-21SMT '503'/G-BRAM, which arrived at North Weald in 1989; and ex-RAF Devon C2 VP961, which had been registered as G-ALFM.
Photos 5, 10 and 14
All taken at Old Warden during the 1970s or early 1980s. The three aircraft shown are Bristol F2B D8096/G-AEOH, the Bristol Boxkite replica and the very real (i.e. not a replica) Avro 504N H5199/G-ADEV, all of which are still part of the Shuttleworth Collection.
Photos 8, 9, 11 and 13
These were taken at the Lee-on-Solent airshow on 27 June 1974 and show Sea Hawk FGA.6 WV828/'037', Sea Hawk FGA.4 WV911, Westland Whirlwind HAS.7s XN314/'25' (nearest) and XN305/PO-516, and Sea King HAS.1 XV675. You can just see the starboard wing-tip of WV828 at the right edge of photo 11.
Photo 12
Taken at the Yeovilton airshow on 7 September 1973, this shows Sea Venom FAW.22 WV138/A-1229, Sea Vixen FAW.2 XS590/E-131 and the fin-tip of Scimitar F.1 XD317/R-112. All three were displayed outside the FAA Museum during the show.
Photo 15
This Harvard was one of at least 15 at the Bassingbourn airshow on the weekend of 27-28 May 1978.
Photo 16
Taken at the Wildenrath airshow on 5 July 1970, the aircraft are (from left to right): G91R3 32+18, CF-104D 104762 and F-4E
68-0513/HS.
Photos 25 and 26
I can’t make out the three-digit code on the tail of the Lightning in the left background in photo 25, but if it’s ‘189’ then it confirms that both photos were taken at the Upper Heyford airshow on 12 August 1972. The aircraft shown are F-111E 68-0036/JR, Lightning F.1A XM189 (tbc), and RF-4E 35+52 making the first appearance of a Luftwaffe RF-4E at this show (the 1971 show had an RF-104G).
Photo 29
Taken at the Abindgdon airshow on 15 June 1968, this shows Auster Antarctic WE600 with Lysander III R9125/LX-L, the tail of Lightning F.6 XS931/G and the tail/rear fuselage of Hunter FGA.9 XXJ642/L.
Hope this helps,
