Preserved - off the beaten track in the USA (large post)

A few (well, quite a few) shots from a number of trips around the USA during the period 2005-2013. The shots are of preserved military hardware which is either off the regular tourist trails or on airfields that are less commonly visited.

RA5C Vigilante 156632 on display at the entrance to Sanford Airport, Florida (OK, so maybe this one isn't so far off the beaten track)

Bell UH-1H 68-15652 is on display at the Air Veterans Memorial in Emporia, Kansas. The town is about 100 miles NE of Wichita

Olathe - New Century Air Centre Airport in Kansas is guarded by 3 ex-USMC / USN aircraft. 150596 Douglas A-4L kyhawk is one, the others are an A-7 and a TA-7

McDD F-4D Phantom 65-0585 guards the entrance to Emporia Municipal Airport about a mile south of the town

Lockheed T-33A 55-3053 is pole mounted at the entrance to the terminal area at White Plains - Westchester County International Airport, New York

Northrop T-38A 61-0809 is preserved at Mineral Wells RAP west of Fort Worth, Texas. It never flew with the Thunderbirds

Mineral Wells is the site of the former Camp Fort Wolters, which was the US Army's basic rotary wing school. The old main gate is guarded by Hiller OH-23B 58-5459

Bell UH-1H 65-10068 is located a few miles east of Mineral Wells, in the National Vietnam War Museum

GD FB-111A 68-0275 is pole mounted in the domestic site of Kelly AFB, San Antonio, Texas

On display above a pond off N Beulah Road in Hawkin, Texas (about 100 miles E of Dallas) is Bell AH-1 68-16440

Nice! Bet a few hire car miles were burned in getting that little lot!!

i couldn't possibly confirm or deny that all car hire and petrol was on work expenses !
