Hi Darren
An bsolutley fantastic journey down memory lane and a very fitting tribute to what was by far the best airshow on the circuit.
There was sometning about the Mildenhall Air Fetes that no other show could bring... not even RIAT then or now... I have never yet witnessed that kind atmosphere it generated at any other show.
Your last set brought a certain memory flooding back to me when I saw the F117 photo.
I had asked the pilot for his patch a few times during the day and on my last attempt I just said to him " Well Sir... what is it... that a guy like me needs to do to get that patch off a guy like you "... he just smiled and said here you are sir it obviously means a lot to you.
I couldn't believe it... he allowed me to take a photo of him and I came away a very happy chap... still got ithe patch and the photo
Many thanks again... in away... your post as made it feel like we have been to the Air Fete

Just a few pics from several hundred taken @ Air Fetes between 1979 & 2001 which for me capture its essence (quite literally in the case of the last one). To misquote the Robert Duval character in Apocalypse Now ' I love the smell of Avgas in the morning.'

Great thread Daz, lots of time dedicated to converting from negatives too. Well done.

Great additions Mike - great contribution to the thread. Love the ‘I love the smell of avgas’ shot - really gives a good recollection of the day as they stood there! SAC crew is also a cracker!
Cheers Mr Nick and Padster for the comments - no empties here!
