1983 USS John F Kennedy Stokes Bay

Post by PaulN » Thu Apr 04, 2019 8:28 am

Hi

Another carrier visit , this time 21st June 1983 to USS John F Kennedy with Carrier Air Wing 3 embarked with all A-6E TRAM Intruders and no A-7E Corsairs making up the VA squadrons.

She had an eventful cruise during which an A6E TRAM 152915 AC-556 of VA-85 was shot down by Syrian AAA over Lebanon with the loss of the pilot , LT Mark Lange and the capture of the B/N LT Robert Goodman on the 4th December 1983 . Lt Goodman was released a month later . Included in this set of photos is a shot of the tail of this A/C which was all I got of it....you never know what you are photographing at the time .

Hope they are of interest

Thank you for looking

Paul

If you read the full account of the mission , you will see why it didnt work so well :O There is a good account in the Osprey Air Combat series by Robert F Dorr on the A-6 Intruder of the mission :thumb:
