NOMAD 2001

Post by james baker » Tue Jan 22, 2019 4:43 pm

This exersize was mainly conducted from R A F Waddington with Spanish and Swiss F 18 S Sea Harriers F16 s and various F 3 squadrons.The3 sq Harriers operated from RAF
Coningsby the only time I ever saw them on exercise the scans are a bit mixed quality I have to blame the weather for that anyway here is another bit of our aviation history.Nearly forgot the Mirage 2000 s

Ah yes. Those were the days to quote Freddie Mercury. Halcyon days for spotters. We'll not see their like again. Did nt make that one but made damn sure I did every one thereafter. One of the best was when the Spanish Mirage F1s operated as Red Air out of Coningsby which was one of two occasions I went there in preference to Waddo.

WHAT a post!!! Thanks for sharing, but to add to the theme, did we really realise just how good things were in those days (and what little variety there would be in the future). At least we have the hugely attractive F-35's to watch..... :'(

Fanastic post. Just shows how times have changed. Where would you get that variety today?

Great set of photos. I remember having a day at Waddington and then the next day watching at Sea Harrier being chased by a Tornado F3 overhead whilst at work!

Nomad!!! That was my annual, must do, aviation fix. Think I did 6 altogether, with a double visit for the last one, due to doing a delivery for work. Traffic was really heavy on the road back up to Scotland on that last day,(at least that's what I told my boss when I arrived back way later than usual. :D ). This was always a great opportunity to get some less common military visitors, and guaranteed to provide lots of flying activity. It was a sad day when this series of exercises stopped.
No one gets out of life alive.
