A selection of the large collection at Gatow, sadly a shortage of sunshine.

There certainly is, annoyingly there is as much stored out of sight as there is on view.

Re: Gatow Museum Berlin 30.12.18
Good variety of frames there, but as you say it’s always frustrating when they tuck stuff away out of sight, or worse, with tantalising views in hangars.

Shooters, Ginas and even an F2A Frightning, the best of the best
Great set there
Thanks for posting

Went there at the beginning of December, Great Museum.
Re: Gatow Museum Berlin 30.12.18
Hi, Gary. There were experiments in the U.S. with this rocket pack, launching from an inclined platform like a zero length runway., so a virtually 45degree instant take-off. I have seen pictures taken during a launch, but I have no information on how long these experiments went on for. Regards, John.

Great Shots. With regard to the "Zero Length Launch" (ZELL) programme, the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyD8njiK6j0 shows the concept well. Stick with it to the end to see why the RATO-pack was 'one-time-use' only!
The second link & text is from an article in The Aviationist. https://theaviationist.com/2018/01/12/t ... arfighter/ This suggests the following details on duration of the Programme? "The ZeLL F-104G was moved to Germany for a total of seven ZeLL test launches at Lechfeld AB between May 4, until Jul. 12, 1966, when the program was abandoned. The German ZeLL flights were flown after the test aircraft was repainted in a more operational German camouflage scheme. The aircraft would end its career as a static display."

Amazing museum ,went there a few years ago, well worth the visit, even if it is awkward to get to.I managed to get a look into one of the restoration hangars, where there was a French version of a Storch,a couple of Alouettes and a WW1 fighter being restored plus a few other things.
