What was the F-101 doing there the year after they were retired from US ANG service?
Thanks for sharing.

It was for battle damage repair training (BDRT) at Alconbury. Later moved to Coventry with the Midland Air Museum.

More evidence of why this thread is so good and keeps giving!! '85 wasn't a classic season in the grand scheme of things with no RAF fast jet displays per se but just look at all this stuff!!

As said, all USAFE bases had a retired airframe or two for BDRT, many kept in good nick given their role. F-100s, '101s,' 105s and F-4C/D/N.. Added even more to the immense variety back then..

Nice set Steven that give a good flavour of that show which I attended. It was one of the better Alconbury shows which tended to be a bit hit and miss. Definitely missed now tho'!

Thanks for comments, Alconbury was one of my favourite fields with plenty of spots to photograph from. Saw some great machines here.
