Didn't expect to see a Harrier at Marham today!
XV741 is officially a GR3, but has been restored by Jet Art Aviation as a replica GR1 from when it participated in the Transatlantic Air Race in 1969. Sqn Ldr Tom Lecky-Thompson went from the top of the Post Office Tower (as it was then known) to the top of the Empire State Building in 6 hours 11 minutes including a vertical take off from a disused coal yard adjacent to St Pancras station including four refuelling RVs with Victor tankers. Having been re-sprayed by the Aircraft Surface Finishing Facility at Marham it was getting set for the return road trip to Jet Art at Thorpe Wood near Selby.
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

I remember the Air Race and seeing the Harrier depart. If I remember correctly the Navy used a Phantom for their entry.
ex-RAF Hunter, Harrier and Wessex mechanic

It started life as a GR.1 and was later updated to a GR.3

That's a smart paint job - so that's Marham's future settled for when the RAF is eventually privatised.
