Bentwaters came oh so close to being the new home for the F-15's. The infrastructure was already being put in place in readiness for them to come in when the A-10's left in 1992/93, but alas politics got in the way before that time ever arrived, and decisions were changed resulting in the F-15's going to Lakenheath instead.
