Mildenhall Air Fete 1989

Post by MarkS » Sat May 27, 2017 12:23 pm

It's that time of year again. Mildenhall weekend.......or Spring bank holiday to the non aviation community :)
Scanned in some negatives from the 1989 edition, all static park, I've yet to find the fliers.
Hope they're of interest and bring back a few memories for the 40+ members on here ! For the younger members, sadly you missed out on a fantastic event ....:(
Cheers,
Mark

Nice mixture of aircraft in great weather - oh for a final Air Fete before Mildenhall closes?

A typical Mildenhall line-up - if there ever was such a thing. Always a few special extras too. The Ohio ANG A-7 was good to see having arrived as part of a deployment to Sculthorpe the previous weekend.

Another great reminder of halcyon days. Thanks

Autumn 1989; the DET4 pair departed January 1990, though the detachment commander was still present at 1990 Airfete. I think 17967 left first with 17971 leaving a day later. The aura departed the Hall.

Ah yes. One of the classic Air Fetes - sun, cold beer, burgers (or Polish sausage) and an almost endless static. Happy days indeed. Think this was the one which closed with the most dramatic B52 display with knife edge passes and everything short of a loop. I watched it from the coach park among the bus spotters who were always present.

Nice to see the WR coded F-16. IIRC they were not based there long?

Scrappy A-7D - still also one of the best slides I took back then. Perfect blue sky weather and an amazing subject.
