Portuguese A-7P Corsair II in UK circa 1985?

Post by LecLightning56 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 7:59 pm

Hi,

Photograph below of a couple of Portuguese A-7P's probably taken in UK in 1985. In amongst photos taken in May 1985 during Exercise Priory 1. I am not sure of the airbase although I do know that Coltishall had squadron exchanges with the Portuguese at this time. If anyone can pinpoint the hangar and reconcile it with the airbase or has records of such a visit at that time please let me know. Shot is from a long distance and slightly out of focus but it seems likely that the serials are 5520 and 5535 for these aircraft.

Looks like Marham during the squadron exchange with 617 Sqn:

[Edited to add: according to my logbook I took that photo on 7 May 1985 in Wales].

I noted 5529 and 5535 at Marham 30/4/85 ;)
Eagles soar, but Weasels don't get sucked in to jet engines.

Thanks Scuba 11,

Your reference is spot on since Exercise Priory 1 was held at the end of April 1985/early May 1985 + these look like Tornado shelters and hence Marham! I do have the BARG DVD 2 at home and concur with your findings, and great reference material it is too for us old-timers!
