Great memory jerker - saw 64-1002 at Alconbury in Aug'66 parked in the 30TRS area. 64-1006 was there as well, both having been delivered to the 10TRW the year before.

Think they looked best in the white/grey colour scheme but by the end of the decade all of Alconbury's RF-4C's had received Vietnam style camo.

After being camo'd, 002 and 006 briefly operated without tail codes before being coded `AS`(30TRS) and finally `AR` when all 3 squadrons were assigned the same letters. `AR` was originally the 1TRS and `AT` the 32TRS

Peak strength was 60 a/c, 20 per sqdn and with most parked outside it was a great sight before the Hardened Shelters ruined the view!

Is very nice

Must agree Graham, on my first trip down with camera in 1970, looked over the grass bank on B1043 to view a full vista left to right of RF-4C's all parked up on their aprons in small groups - noted 43 spread over the field in my log

On a visit to Zweibrücken maybe?

Or Bentwaters maybe? - I know Alconbury did not have that many trees (?), not sure about Zweibruken but Bentwaters had plenty of those type

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. If we were at Lakenheath we would be gutted if the only visitors were a pair of UTAH's (ZR RF-4C)
